Louie Loves: Caran d’Ache 849 Pen

Allow us to return to our stationary/school supply nerdiness (see also here and here) for a minute.  Perhaps it is the new year, but we are very much in the mood for everything sleek and simple.  It is the season for making lists, and if you are anything like us, the first thing on your list is to buy pretty things with which to make those lists.  Totally normal.  So our favorite item right now is naturally a perfect pen, a Swiss-made one from Caran d’Ache.  We discovered these while browsing the amazing stationary section of the Bon Marche in Paris – where we spent both far too much time and far too much money.  The 849 style is a basic click ballpoint, but some how seems elegant in its minimal design.  The click is so smooth, the hexagonal shape means it won’t roll away and it writes in even blue ink.  It’s made from aluminum, which is lightweight but has a nice solid feel in your hand.  It comes in tons of colors – the actual pen not the ink – so you can chose the cool matte black if you want to keep you desk looking a neat and tidy as possible, or a bright shade to make sure you can always find in quickly in your purse.  It is just 5 inches long, so it is very travel friendly, and of course it fits easily in our Louie.

Net-a-porter sells them in a pair or black and white and a trio of neon hues and a very nice silvery gray shade is available here.
