We love West Elm. A very disproportionate amount of our furniture comes from there. We are actually hoping they decide to discontinue the chocolate stained wood they’ve had since day one because at this point we really cannot put another piece of it in our house. In the years since the first catalogs (which consisted almost entirely of this chocolate finish) West Elm has come a long way. Recently they have seriously stepped things up with their collaborations and are making some pretty amazing design very accessible. Our current obsession is their John Vogel pieces. Right now they have a chair and a bench from the South African designer, both of which are sooth polished wood with woven seats. The shapes are awesome. The pieces have a sort of mid century vibe but the woven seat gives them a very modern spin. The chairs are also super comfortable. We picked up two chairs – acorn wood with charcoal seats – and we are already thinking we should get another set and perhaps a bench. At the moment one is serving as a desk chair (paired with a Parsons desk of course) and another is positioned at the head of our dining table. We’ve always liked our sort of mismatched dining chairs but after seeing these photos on Vogel’s site, we’re pretty sure we would also like the idea of a full Vogel set. We will mix in the darker (unfortunately also labeled ‘chocolate’) finish with the red seat for sure.
